Thanks for stopping by. I’m Anne Daiva Kelly, but please call me Annie. Mommy to seven year old Sprite of a daughter Allie and wife to my amazingly creative and inspiring husband Tom, I am a Bay Area Native – born on the Peninsula and having recently moved to peaceful Marin (how did I not know it was so magical here until now?!). Here is my story:
I was a photographer without a specialty, simply taking any assignment I could get my hands on – weddings, corporate gigs, head shots, architectural, you name it… and then my daughter Allie was born in 2008 and everything changed. That journey into motherhood was and is the most profound and meaningful of my life. Focus shifted. Love shifted. Understanding of the journey through parenthood became front and center in my Universe, and there I was with my little girl and my camera and no “off” button in my brain for wanting to capture EVERYTHING. And in a natural progression of things, my business shifted. My love of photographing families through all their stages was born. At first it was just about portraiture – newborns in baskets, getting everyone to look at the camera family portraits, etc. – and while that portraiture most certainly has it’s place, I’ve started to get real with myself over the years. Life is far from perfect – beautiful and messy all in one breath. Life has a flow. The in between moments are the most real, and my favorite. The story of each family is innately unique to them. And so as I grow as a human, as a mom, as a woman, and business owner, so does my work as a photographer. I feel that what I capture is an absolute reflection of my own evolution of all these things in my life – and I genuinely care about uncovering the authenticity of each family I photograph. It’s my job to hold the space for this authenticity to flow, so that what I capture is not just real, but recognizable to every person I photograph. That they see themselves – that you see yourself. There are days that I shake my head out of disbelief that this is my life – that I get to do this every day, and I am so incredibly grateful.
With that, I’d just like to add, I understand that looking for a photographer is a very personal and important decision. Your chosen photographer’s work should hands down resonate with you on a heart level. Our industry is overflowing with talent, and we all bring something different to the table, but at the end of the day you want to find someone whose work you not only love, but you truly feel on an instinctual level will “get” you and your family – someone who will see you, and help you feel yourselves. The experience is just as important as the finished product, and I’m lucky to call many of my clients friends now because we have so much fun together! So ask questions, and get a feel for every photographer whose work sparks something in you. Capturing your life, your loves, your journey – it’s kind of a big deal! I get beyond excited to receive an inquiry, because it means I sparked something in someone… I hope that next someone might be you.
